“The book itself was very well written. There were two story lines going on at once, and it flipped between them during the book. The way she wrote the book was intriguing; she wrote it from the characters first person point of view from each character. A character was basically the narrator of a chapter, then another character for another chapter. I thought it was fun because you got to know their thoughts, but you could still interpret the other parts of the story yourself. The meat of the story was happening, but there were twists in it that you couldn’t see coming, and it kept you very interested in the book. In some parts that I thought didn’t matter in the story, something important later came out of them. I liked all the super-athletic, ninja-like action parts, and all the characters doing what they were gifted at.In all, I really liked this book. It kept my attention, I could relate to it, it was fun. There was a lot of action, good amount of deep story, and relatable struggles that kept you connected to the book. I would recommend this book to others.”
“I LOVED this book! Can’t wait for Book 2. My 11 yr. old daughter just started it, and is loving it as well. I would put this book up there with the Harry Potter and Chronicles of Narnia series. It is epic and captivating! I highly recommend it!”
“Thunder will grab you from the moment you start reading with the power of its imagery. The world Ms. Sullivan has created is vivid. The characters are strong and well-developed; good fictional friends for your children as well as for you. This book is a good one for the entire family to read and discuss over the summer.”
“Thunder is an excellent story filled with adventure, intrigue, survival, and love of family ... The characters are well developed and the author shows the wonderful relationship between Olivia, James, and Samuel and later their friend and Guardian, Ethan. This book can be enjoyed by readers of all ages.”
“This book moved me. On so many levels. Within pages, you care deeply for this wonderful girl and her two brothers and they don’t let go until - well I can’t tell you - they haven’t let go yet.Her Lord-of-the-Ring-sized quest to close the rift between the layers of the world brings together the best of Rick Riordan’s Percy Jackson, JK Rowling’s Harry Potter and Suzanne Collins’ Gregor the Overlander with a healthy dose of Cornelia Funke’s Reckless. That’s pretty much my favourite fantasy books/movies/TV of all time.”
“When I found this book on the bestsellers list I was actually looking for my children as they need books to read over the summer. After reading the excerpt I knew they would love it. What I didn’t expect was for me to love it, too. I started reading right after I downloaded it and pretty much didn’t stop until I was finished. In a nutshell, this is an action/adventure/fantasy/magical/thriller that I loved and my children will love, too. My son, who has to be forced to read anything, is already almost a third of the way through it and is CHOOSING to read it. WOW!”
“This is the author’s first book, you say? Get out, I say! Ms. Sullivan has created a story that truly shines. The plot is complex and thought provoking, the characters clearly developed and the message beautiful. I can’t wait for the next installment, and hope Ms. Sullivan doesn’t keep us waiting for too long.A great read, and one I intend to recommend to others!”
“Rich in characters, settings, and action, this book surprised me over and over. I found myself cheering for the young heroes and heroine and wholeheartedly believing the themes of hope through sorrow and courage through doubts.”
“Being in my thirties, I don’t usually enjoy Young Adult books. But since this book thundered (ha ha, pun totally intended!) up the Amazon Bestseller List (I think it hit #34 on its first day? Wow!) I had to give it a read. I’m so glad I did!Ms. Sullivan has a writing style that is completely captivating. She creates beautiful pictures with her words, and she seriously grabbed me and wouldn’t let me go. This is a story my children will be reading, when they’re old enough. And I know they will love it. I think this is an instant classic, a story that anyone, at any age, could read and fall in love with. I know I did.”
“Ms. Sullivan is a creative literary force. Love, love, love her writing style! Many stories leave the reader to conjure up the mental images to accompany the words, however, Ms. Sullivan paints the picture so vividly with her words that none would be disappointed by a movie version (you know the old tug of war....which is better, the book or the movie?). It became clear to me in the very earliest chapters that this would, in fact, make an excellent movie and I hope to see it on the big screen. Hollywood, are you listening?”
“The characters themselves I found easy to like and care about. I liked how they didn’t really have super powers of sort, but rather traits and roles they will have to full fill - like Seeker, Leader and so on. This is another part of the book I now experience differently than how I would have as a kid. The story manages to get through some lessons, without being too obvious or annoying (because I simply hate when I book told me how I am suppose to act or think). Here the characters were used for examples and the lessons were left to sink in. I particularly liked the idea that just by being kind, you can bring change to the world. It was good to see that sometimes characters where scared, weak, and doubtfull, and that they admitted it and still stood their ground in the end. ”
“Thunder was a pure joy to read. I was gripped from the first page. Thunder has the full of my heart. Olivia is such a lovable lead, yet every single character has something unique and special to offer. The writing is so rich and delicious, the messages deep and thought-provoking. This author’s descriptions made me smile and continue to feel warm inside through every page.”
“This book gets your attention right from the beginning! Action packed! Loved the characters, especially Ethan and Olivia! Right from the start, the book cover draws you in and captivates you. Well done! Can’t wait for more!”
“This book was great read! I had a very hard time stopping once I would start reading. The rich description and attention to detail suck you right into the story with the characters. I bought the kindle version as well as a hard copy for each of my daughters.”
“The story of these children’s adventures as they did what they had to do to deal with what they encountered was always surprising and creative. I was transfixed to the end.”
“The story is magical and packed with adventure. The children are wise and strong and thoughtful. They bounce back over and over again and persevere through every unique obstacle. I agree with other reviewers that the book is captivating and full of surprises. Riveting!”
